Overview

Kerey is a quiet and secluded village nestled in the rugged terrain of eastern Ladakh, within the greater Nyoma region. It is a place of tranquil beauty, where time seems to slow down. Far removed from mainstream travel circuits, Kerey offers a genuine connection with traditional Ladakhi village life, Buddhist spirituality, and untouched high-altitude landscapes

Location & Accessibility

By Road:

  • Reachable via 4×4 vehicle from Nyoma, with rugged minor routes connecting from nearby settlements such as Mahe, Loma, or Hanle.

  • The journey passes through high-altitude plateaus and sparsely inhabited terrain, making it ideal for experienced travelers or guided tours.

Permits:

  • Since the village lies in the border-sensitive Changthang region, Inner Line Permits (ILP) are often required for foreign nationals.

  • Indian nationals should also carry valid ID and multiple copies of the permit, as military checkpoints are common.

Travel Note:

  • Roads are weather-dependent and may be closed during snowfall or flash floods.

  • Carry fuel, food, and water, as services are minimal or non-existent beyond Nyoma.
